Don Andrews Color Emphasis Figures Landscape Watercolor Workshop

Don Andrews is a signature member and past board Director of the American Watercolor Society. He has conducted over 400 painting workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Africa.
 Don is the author of the numerous books: “Interpreting the Figure in Watercolor,” “Interpreting the Landscape in Watercolor,” and “Rough Sketches: Short Stories of a Traveling Artist.” He has also created a 5 DVD series that are sold individually, or as a Watercolor Workshop set. Don is featured in the Watson Guptill publication, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Watercolor,” and “Confident Color,” and has had numerous feature articles published in American Artist magazine, and the Watercolor issue of American Artist.

In Don’s Color Emphasis Figure workshop, students of all skill levels will delve into a 5-day exploration of color, design, organization, light, and their utilization, in the exciting world of figure painting. This workshop will be packed with demonstrations, discussions, individual help, personal and group critiques. Workshop spaces are reserved in the order the deposit is received. Deposit is refunded if the workshop is canceled. The balance is due 30 days before the start of the workshop.
Supply List - One pad newsprint (18" or larger)
- A few sticks of soft charcoal or Conte' crayon
- A pad of smooth-surfaced drawing paper (at least 20 sheets) 18# x 24# or larger. Any large sheet of paper will work as lng as water will puddle or run down the page rather than soak into it. We will be doing a daily series of warm-up gesture or experimental paintings on this paper. This paper can be purchased in pads from most art supply stores. Some brands available are Aquabee Sketch and Strathmore Sketch 400 Series.
- 10-12 full sheets of watercolor paper (Don uses Arches Cold press 140lb.) Work with any size, but bring plenty of paper.
- Easel (preferably a table easel, Don uses a French Box easel)Paintings will be worked at a slant.
- The usual watercolor supplies: Palette, paint, brushes, water container, paint board with clamps, paper towels, etc.
- Photos, sketches or other source material for class study.
Brushes: In addition to the usual brushes, a 1-1/2” or 2” flat brush is recommended. Don Andrews uses a Robert Simmons Sky Flow flat brush.
Watercolor Paints:
Recommended brands: Holbein, Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith, and American Journey. - 2 light, 2 medium, and 2 dark of all the primary colors, and Black
