Debbie Landa
Debbie Landa, a co-owner of Artists’ Showplace Gallery, discovered her passion for painting later in life. After friends convinced her to take an art class with them at a local recreation center. She flourished in the class, and before long, she was studying art at the university level. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Debbie attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.
After having two children, she returned to college at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and took a number of graduate classes. She currently sits on the Advisory Board of UTD’s Women’s Center and has served on the Executive Committee of the UTD Alumni Association. Since graduating from college, Debbie has worked in a variety of creative fields, including radio and public relations.
Debbie Landa has always been surrounded by creativity. Her mother was a jazz pianist, so there was always music in the house when she was growing up. Debbie even sang in those days. Her foray into the visual arts was a natural progression. A breast cancer survivor, Debbie says that she found a new lease on life because of friends who encouraged her to pursue art. She credits those classes at the recreation center, for providing her with the hope and incentive to overcome.
Debbie has studied painting with renowned artists in New Mexico, California, Florida and Texas. Her favorite subject to paint is skies. “I’m so lucky to have witnessed the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets during my travels from coast to coast and abroad. My extensive travels are the primary inspiration for my paintings and, more recently, my photography.”
Debbie paints in oil, pastel and acrylic, but she prefers acrylic because it dries fast, enabling her to paint layer upon layer, which is one of her favorite techniques. As a co-owner of Artists’ Showplace, she not only exhibits her work at the gallery but also books musicians for the gallery’s monthly receptions. She is active on its Public Relations committee. Debbie’s paintings and photographs hang in galleries and private collections in California, New York, Florida, Washington, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas. Check back to see more of Debbie's work.
