Cheryl D. McClure Workshop Abstract: The Process June 21-24, 2011 $280

Artists' Showplace Gallery is pleased to announce a workshop by Cheryl D. McClure. Her work has been featured in International Artist Magazine, as the cover art for several award winning poetry books, as well as the cover art of Nita Leland's The New Creative Artist and Confident Color, an Artist’s Guide to Harmony, Contrast, and Unity. “Rather than paint what is in front of me," says Cheryl "I prefer painting what I’ve experienced, places half-remembered, imaginary and/or designed spaces." She feels that "beginning a painting without any real result in mind, is freeing myself from preconceptions of what it will turn out to be. The work I love the most, when complete, covers the worst mistakes. By the time I get to where it doesn’t matter what happens and the work couldn’t be worse, some magic takes over and just leads me through the process. The process IS the magic. The work becomes an amalgam of good design visited on my experiences.” This four day workshop will concentrate on abstraction as process. Cheryl will demonstrate the process she uses the most in her painting practice. However, the central focus will be on each individual artist finding their own process through their own vision. Workshop participants are encouraged to use acrylic on canvas. Paper, full sheet or larger, is perfectly acceptable as well. There will be a lot of painting time with Cheryl conferring individually with the participants, through out the workshop. She will demo her processes in the mornings.
Cheryl has been painting for more than twenty-five years. Her work is organic, landscape oriented, with attention to good design elements and principles. She lives on a 200 acre ranch in north-eastern Texas between Shreveport and Dallas. Over the years, she has been awarded Signature status in the Southwestern Watercolor Society, The Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and the Texas Visual Artist Association as well as the National Association of Women Artists. Her work is currently represented by galleries, in Seattle, WA, Ridgeland, MS, Lampasas and Austin, TX, as well as Minneapolis, MN. She is currently a finalist for the 2011 Hunting Art Prize in Houston, Texas.
