Cecie Feiner Borschow AWS, NWS
Cecie Feiner Borschow is a founding co-owner of Artists' Showplace Gallery.
"I do not remember exactly when I decided to become an artist. Art was all around me from the day I was born. My grandfather was a collector of paintings, sculpture, antique tapestries, Oriental and Native American carpets, artifacts and furniture. Growing up, I watched my father design advertisements for the Mexican-American newspaper. My parents enrolled me in private drawing lessons on Saturday mornings. Loving to draw, my solitary time was spent copying figures and faces out of fashion magazines, and making clothing for paper dolls, all the time dreaming of becoming a fashion designer. In high school, I designed my own evening gowns. With my mothers' encouragement, I chose the fabrics and we found a seamstress to make them. I felt lucky and very proud to wear my own creations to high school and college dances." Ice Crystals Mixed Media on Canvas (acrylic, semi-precious stones and beading, 24x24".
A native Texan, Cecie grew up in El Paso; majored in Fine Art at the University of Texas in Austin. She married and moved to Dallas putting her dream on hold, while raising three children. "My one day of the week out of the house, I studied oil painting, eventually learning the glazing technique. The transition from oil to watercolor came naturally. One of my sons, who studied watercolor, encouraged me to try it. At first I resisted, but then decided to take a class at Richland Community College. After that, I took a two week workshop in Ruidoso, New Mexico with Judi Betts. It was heavenly and I fell in love - with watercolor, that is!" Then she was off and running. Her children were older and she took advantage of them being in school, by painting all day almost every day, and again late into the night. Cecie has studied with some of the greatest artists: among them Robert E. Wood, Leo Smith, Rob Erdle, Polly Hammett, Jeanne Dobie, and Katherine Chang Liu, whom she admired and were her mentors.
San Miguel Fish Watercolor (11" x 15") The prestigious American Watercolor Society of New York and the National Watercolor Society of California elected Cecie to Signature Membership. "Along with my children, these are my proudest achievements." Cecie has worked to develop her own style and color sense. " My style continues to grow as I experiment. Working in water media, I explore non-objective as well as realism. The non-objective and abstract work instinctively comes from my inner being, a spiritual place. I am not sure where it will take me, but I am excited about taking this risk in order to continue to grow."
