Anthony Davis Workshop
Pastel and Oil
Landscapes and Coastal Scenes
May 16-20, 2011
$350
9:30-4:00 p.m.

Anthony Davis will teach a pastel and oil landscape workshop at Artists' Showplace Gallery, which will focus on composing visually appealing paintings from photographs (provided by instructor and those brought in by participants.)

There will be an emphasis on aerial perspective, atmosphere, light, shadow and color harmony. The steps of creating a painting will be explored, as artistic vision is identified and then communicated visually.

Anthony Davis is a self-educated artist, known mostly for his award-winning maritime scenes and seascapes. His coastal themed artwork is quickly gaining national recognition in museum exhibits across the country, including the upcoming Long Island Biennial at the Heckscher Museum of Art.

Davis is a regular exhibiting artist at the Marine Art Gallery of Mystic Seaport, where his seascapes have been on display at their prestigious Annual International and Modern Marine Masters Exhibitions, which attract the world's most renowned marine artists.

As a plein air painter, he is a founding member of the Long Island Plein Air Painter's Society, and is also responsible for the creation of Northport's Annual Plein Air Painting Event, where in 2009, his painting won the “Best in Show”.

He is an elected Artist member of the American Society of Marine Artists and an elected Artist member of the Salmagundi Club. One of his most recent paintings, "November Wind", was chosen to be in the Society's 14th National Exhibition, which recently traveled to five museums over a period of 16 months.

Anthony's seascapes were part of a feature on Waves and Water, in the August 2010 edition of The Pastel Journal, and his painting was chosen for the cover. Today, in addition to painting local scenery as an oil painter, he continues with his first love, representing the ocean and maritime scenery in both pastels and oil.

This is a terrific opportunity for all landscape painters to study with a master in this workshop.
