Lucille Carter

Lucille Carter, is one of the founding co-owners of Artists' Showplace Gallery.

A native of New York, Lucille Cole Carter evolved from a very successful fashion and furniture illustrator, into an outstanding fine artist, recognized regionally and nationally for her vivid oil, pastel and acrylic paintings.

"I paint because I am a “control freak”! No, seriously… What else is there in our lives that provides greater freedom to create our own reality and share that reality with others?"

Lucille is an Associate member of Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America. She is also an award-winning, Signature member of Associated Creative Artists, a Signature member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest, and a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America.

"Painting,"she says "is about focus: about life’s point of view, and the choices we make. One can choose to focus on the events that bring pain and suffering; or focus on events that bring joy."

"There are many “realities”. I’ve been teased, and sometimes criticized, for being the eternal optimist; making lemonade out of lemons, and choosing compromise over conflict.

We are surrounded by stimuli. Our senses are bombarded by information; and we have the opportunity to acknowledge it all, yet choose our focus."

Artists can hone and nurture the ability to focus upon that which is beautiful; that which is exciting, uplifting, interesting and which expands one’s understanding."

Artists paint subjects, shapes in colors that touch them in some way. We can breathe life onto paper or canvas, into wood or clay or stone.

"We may not change the world", states Lucille," as profoundly as a surgeon; our art will surely not cure disease. But we do have the ability to enrich the lives of others by sharing our perspective.

We can spotlight the many wonders of the world which might otherwise go unnoticed.

Lucille acknowledges feeling extremely grateful to be able to do work that she loves, and to be acknowledged by her peers. "Painting more prolifically has provided insight, growth and opportunities for travel. The more I travel, and the more people I meet, the more I realize how much we, as artists, are truly blessed.

We can, individually or as a group, create a virtual “epidemic” of joy. I’m a “child of the 60’s” after all!"

Lucille Carter's work has been represented by galleries in New York, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina and Texas, and is included in many important collections in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
