Dovie Wu
Dovie Wu, co-owner of Artists' Showplace Gallery enjoys the challenge of tackling multiple media. Interestingly enough, she holds an MS in Computer Science from Penn State University. Peacock at Twilight
Though my majestic feathers may sustain longer than your life, My body will decay before your eyes I'm ready to soar again at twilight, in the glowing ray from the sky, That He may intercept my celestial form under His mighty arms. Dovie Wu
Dovie began her painting journey in watercolor, but soon found herself experimenting in a variety of other media, like pastels, oils and acrylics. Her paintings have a delicate quality to them, and are prized by her collectors. Dovie began painting in watercolor in 1997. When asked about what influences her as an artist, she said that "although music and dance have been lifelong interests of mine, I found that being a painter was the easiest medium for expressing my innermost emotions."
Dovie strives for brushstrokes that are confident and spontaneous, to express the subjects that fascinate her, with sensitivity, as well as a sense of surrealism. Tending to get easily bored, if she always painted in a particular style, she often explores different media, surfaces and subjects to incorporate into her art. She loves to create an impressionistic interpretation of subjects that she is drawn to. Equally facile in oils as she is with watermedia, Dovie is a prolific painter.
Dovie travels extensively because she enjoys plein air painting. Whether in Spain, Italy, or here in America, she often paints watercolor paintings on location. I incorporate movement and the spirit of music in my paintings, using vibrant colors, to paint people and landscapes that inspire me." "It delights me to receive positive feedback on my paintings. One comment that really stuck with me is when I was told by someone: “Your paintings just get to me..." How fulfilling to be able to connect with my audience in such a profound way! It motivates me to strive to be a better painter, so that people are grabbed by my paintings, even if they are just passing by." Dovie is a member of the Southwest Watercolor Society. Her work has been accepted in both the Southwest Watercolor Society and the Pastel Society of the Southwest, juried shows. She won the Best of Show for the Vertu 2010 show.
